![]() ![]() It’s almost like I’m fighting what is most natural in creating a character that you or I can attach ourselves to. At first that’s the way I automatically started drawing the Transformers. When I draw mechanical things like planes or trucks or regular things that you see in a comic book, superheroes or whatever, I tighten up, because I’m trying to be representational of that kind of mechanical hard edge. But I found the more precious that I am with my lines when drawing the Transformers and all their blockiness, the less good it looks. I think overall there’s a general tendency to pull out a ruler and the microns when drawing Transformers, which definitely has a place. Yet you find a way to make the Transformers look organic while still looking like robots. The Transformers, as robots, have hard, cold, metallic surfaces. Your work is known for its organic quality. There have been many iterations of Transformers since the G1, which I’m very knowledgeable of, but it just felt like the right move for me as a creator to do what I’m most excited about. It’s almost like there’s been this like caged beast inside of me that is finally free to have the time and resources and the push from Skybound and Hasbro to go and make something that I can get excited about. Thankfully, now I’m at a point in my career and in my ability level that I’m able to bring out what I’ve always wanted to do. I go into this story because I have this childhood memory of getting very frustrated with not being able to draw things the way that I envisioned in my head. It was my way of learning how to draw Optimus Prime. But there was an ad for the VHS version of Transformers: The Moviethat had a whole lineup of the characters, and Optimus Prime was right in the middle. I remember there was an old Richie Rich comic in the early 90s. Finding good reference was very difficult. They were very expensive.īut I also was trying to learn how to draw these Transformers, and there was no solid imagery of them except for the television show. Those designs just completely captured me. But I would watch the reruns after school in second and third grade. I was born in ‘87, so I missed obviously the debut of the cartoon, and the movie. Was there a particular era of Transformers that you responded to that, that’s inspired your work on this book?ĭefinitely, I can’t help but go back to like the G1. It’s fun, there’s literally toys already made for me to play with and try and bring something that’s exciting to the Transformers fan base. It’s a huge part of my growing up and I just am enjoying the chance to bring that world to life in in a way that’s in my head. ![]() And also because it’s something that’s so special to me as a person. So honestly, working on Transformers is kind of like this fun break for me, which is one of the things that was so attractive about it. But straight-up making my own stuff is way harder than working on a Wonder Woman book or Transformers, where I have to be responsible for making all the characters and all the story points and there’s no frame of reference for a new reader who comes to the book. To be totally honest, after I’d just finished doing Powerbomb, I was looking to do another creator-owned project. I’m just looking for stuff that’s gonna get me excited. I’m not actively looking for stuff that’s different. Do you seek projects that are different from your last project? Here’s what he had to tell us…Īll of the titles you’ve worked on are significantly different from one another. Whilst people around the world were captivated by Gorman and her powerful poem, “The Hill We Climb,” it was her popping Prada ensemble and significant ring on her right hand that caught our eye. National youth poet laureate Amanda Gorman was just one of the stolen spotlight moments from the historic 2021 Presidential Inauguration. Dressed in head-to-toe white in the form of a Chanel pantsuit, the colour was a nod to the history of women’s suffrage and its continued symbolism of women’s rights. Jennifer Lopez has been cemented as a style icon and her latest address to the nation was proof. “As an American living in Paris, this ensemble is a love letter to the country I miss so dearly and to a performer whose artistry I have so long admired,” said Roseberry. Her custom ensemble was still representative of American fashion as it was the work of Texan designer Daniel Roseberry, who served as artistic director for Schiaparelli since 2019. A dream that is non-violent, a dream that provides safety for our souls. A day for dreaming of our future joy as a country. “I pray tomorrow will be a day of peace for all Americans,” she wrote on Instagram on Jan. A symbol of peace, the brooch further highlighted the multi-hyphenates’ dream of a better America. Lady Gaga made a statement with her Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown when she performed the National Anthem, and it was quite hard to not miss the very visible accessory of a gilded brooch of a dove carrying an olive branch. Next to her stands the country’s first Second Gentleman, Doug Emhoff, wearing Ralph Lauren. The new lady in office championed designers of colour by opting for a design by 2020 CFDA Emerging Designer of the Year, Christopher John Rogers, and Sergio Hudson. Former First Lady Michelle Obama (dressed in Sergio Hudson) and Hillary Clinton (in Ralph Lauren) both wore shades of the colour, but all eyes were on the new Vice President Kamala Harris. If you’ve watched the Inauguration, you would’ve noticed that power of purple was surely the standout colour of the day. ![]() ![]() ![]() Here at Poster Plus, we mount posters and documents to an acid-free paper with a linen backing – which ensures your poster maintains its value for as long as you choose to enjoy it. Each poster is considered on a case by case basis, due to difference in acidity and paper type.Īll too often we see posters ruined by inexperienced framers who improperly attach posters to an acidic backing or glue posters to the frame backing. Q: I wanted to get my original poster framed – do I really need to have it conserved first?Ī: At Poster Plus, we recommend that customers who are considering framing their original or collectible posters also consider conservation. Often posters and documents are turned away at other conservation labs due to tape or adhesive residue – at Poster Plus, we can remove nearly any type of adhesive, just drop-off, ship or messenger your poster to us, and we will be happy to give you a free estimate. Q: I have had an original poster since college, but I made the mistake of taping it to the wall – its decades later – can anything be done to fix it?Ī: We are able to offer a great number of conservation services at Poster Plus. ![]() When you conserve your poster, you are maintaining its value, and often – increasing it as well. Over time, paper tends to be come brittle, fibers can lose their coloring along fold lines, and small tears can be exacerbated by constant handling.Īt Poster Plus, our conservation lab has well over 30 years of preserving, and restoring vintage posters. When handled by a professional conservationist, mounting or encapsulating original posters and documents can help prevent future deterioration of your piece. Q: Will linen-backing my original posters decrease their value?Ī: Just the opposite. Damage caused by clear adhesive tape, residual stains, water marks and dirt can be easily repaired combining this with the replacement of lost paper can bring the poster back to virtually its original state. Restoration can dramatically improve the appearance of a poster (see example below). We strive to make certain that materials and techniques that are applied to the poster are not harmful over time and are reversible to bring it back to the state in which we found it. Reversibility is a concept that is important in all conservation work, because today's curators and collectors are only temporary custodians of a cultural object (the poster) that will have continuing and timeless interest for future collectors. Fabric backing also eliminates the waviness that can occur when the poster is framed. It is our experience that japan paper backing alone (common in parts of Europe and among museum conservators) does not offer sufficient support and over time folds may reappear and stress the poster. Customers agree that all procedures are performed at the sole risk of the customer and Poster Plus is not liable for any damage or loss.Ī: The principal reason is to provide support for the paper. It also enables the conservator to flatten the folds and to more easily make repairs. Incidental damage from these problems is not the responsibility of Poster Plus. However, we are frequently dealing with unknowns as to how the paper was manufactured or handled, including but not limited to the printing, chemicals and adhesion to other materials. * All work is done with the utmost caution and consideration of the art involved. The adhesive used is wheat paste treated to inhibit mold growth. We use a #12 weight cotton artist's canvas as our backing fabric. ![]() Modern backing techniques have eliminated this problem by using an acid free paper between the poster and the fabric. This provided some protection, but with the passage of time the paper continued to become brittle and was frequently torn by stress. The backing of posters with fabric dates back to 19th century France, where posters were occasionally glued to linen for reinforcement. Our work is represented in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Pritzker Military Library, The Yale Center for British Art, The Chicago History Museum, The Polish Museum of America, The Library of Congress, and the Tibbals Learning Center of the Ringling Museum and important private collections. Poster Plus began doing poster conservation work in 1975 for our own vintage inventory, and since 1989 our services have been widely used by collectors, galleries and museums. ![]() ![]() Cross platform play can be enabled or disabled across the Xbox system, and even controlled via Xbox Family Settings for child accounts.
